JD Dorian is the new kid in scrubs as he enters the hospital for the first time as a medical intern. His best friend, Turk, who is a bit more of a frat boy and ladies’ man, is a surgical intern. Not only does JD have to deal with the stress of adapting to his workplace but he feels him and his best friend growing apart. Then he meets Elliot, a cutthroat competitive medical intern who, despite her unpleasantness sometimes, he can't seem to get off his mind. Add in Carla, an incredible nurse who doesn't take anybody's crap; Dr. Cox, an experienced doctor who doesn't want to play the hospital social game but ends up as JD’s mentor all the same; the janitor whose name we do not know with a particularly harsh grudge; and, Bob Kelso, the hellish Chief of Medicine who plasters on a fake grin, and you have quite a roster for JD to adjust to. Despite their differences, they all really need each other to keep the hospital turning. It's a great workplace comedy without an ounce of reality. It borrows a little from ALLY MCBEAL in its quirky effects-laden inner commentaries in which JD’s head explodes in frustration or he hits the rewind button to take back a foot-in-the-mouth moment. I didn't love it the way I love ALLY and its hilarious cast and I doubt I will watch anymore of it, but this debut season of SCRUBS was a solid showing nonetheless.

“The nurse came by to shave me again.”
“I didn't tell her to do that.”
“You didn't?”
“No, I think she's got a crush on you.”
