The latest installment after their 2012 masterpiece, Koloss, The Violent Sleep Of Reason finds itself in mostly familiar territory in comparison; however, this time around the band decided to record the entire record live in the studio. This leads to a somewhat more organic (if one can use that word for a band like Meshuggah) feel and groove between the guitars and drums. Though I am not convinced one would notice this production fact if not told about it prior - the album still is very produced, clean, and precise. Some stand out tracks include "Born In Dissonance", "Monstrocity", and "Nostrum" though the record as a whole lacks the cohesive vision that helped make Koloss such an instant classic. Some songs seem to bleed together and lack identity. This record is pretty much what you would expect from Meshuggah, but not a whole lot more.
