I'd been told by my friends - and the internet - that I would love this book. And maybe the reason why I don't really like this book is because I hyped up The Archive to the highest levels before reading it.
After I finished The Archived, though, I felt majorly let down. I mean, here was this book that everyone seems to love and there I was, not really liking it.
Aside from me not really liking the book overall, the story *is* addicting. I couldn't stop reading The Archived. I really liked all the characters and was really heart broken by the beginning. Mac as a character in this first book, is pretty much static. She doesn't change too much; she still works hard.
The basic premise of The Archived is what I love most about this book. I mean, the fact that there is this secret society of people across the world who can do what they do?? That's pretty great.

“The Archived” is about a young girl named Mac who has recently lost both her beloved grandfather and her younger brother. Mac is also a Keeper, a living person whose job is to keep the spirits of the dead locked inside the Archive (a large library of souls). As the novel progresses, Mac’s family moves into an old hotel called the Coronado. Here Mac meets Wesley, another Keeper. As the Archive begins to descend into chaos, Mac and Wesley uncover secrets that someone desperately wanted to keep hidden.
This novel can be described as a dark fantasy/mystery novel. “The Archived” is refreshingly well written, with an intelligent storyline and satisfying plot twists. The characters of the novel are believable and likeable. Mac does hang onto the past (more specifically, the deaths of her grandfather and brother), and while this becomes tiring, it is understandable. The setting is well planned, and it adds to the novel’s overall feel of mystery and fantasy. There are no dull moments within “The Archived”. Readers will find themselves with their eyes glued to the pages, itching to find out what happens next.
The author of this review highly recommends “The Archived”. It is an enjoyable, well-written pleasure read. There are no underlying meanings within the novel, causing “The Archived” to be a pleasure read and not a good book for an essay or ‘book talk’. This novel is suitable for ages thirteen and up, as there are no adult themes, and there is very little profanity used.

A wonderful and addicting read. It is a great book with a great cast of characters. All the individuals are developed and have full stories. They jump out of the page, as does the book.

I really wanted to like this book. The premise was good and some parts of it were strong. But I couldn't really get into the characters or the plot even. The constant flashbacks began to grate on my nerves after a while and, generally, didn't do much for me to really move the plot forward or change the pace.

I thought the book could have focused more on the idea of the archive and the rules of that place then it did. So much of the book was focused on the main character whining about how her parents were behaving and bemoaning the reality of her life (for good reason, admittedly, but annoying nonetheless.)

Again, I really thought this was a strong premise, but the book didn't deliver. I had such high hopes, too.

Being an avid fantasy fiction reader, I enjoyed reading about something other than dystopic societies and vampires. I found the world that was created to be unique and sufficiently fleshed out (if you can call it that when referring to dead people). I felt with the main character and was keen to figure out the mystery with her. Recommended.

The Archived is one of those books that proves to be nothing like you expect it to be. Although it takes a little bit of time to get into the story, by the time you do, you're turning each page wondering what will happen next and hoping no one interrupts you. The Archived is one of those YA books that has a little bit of everything: a family struggling with the death of a loved one, a teenage girl trying to figure out how to balance all the aspects of her life, a little bit of romance and a whole lot of action and suspense. If you like any of those things, this is a definite read!

I agree with steph1068: I hadn't expected much, but the book proved to be an enjoyable read. Fresh and original plot, interesting characters, cute romance. I'm looking forward to the sequel, which is coming out next year.

Enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Lots of action, interesting back story, kick-ass heroine, different premise. Definitely kept me interested. Not sure if this is the start of a series or not, but I'd read more.

That's because you're fighting it. You're trying to block out every bit of noise. But people are made of noise, Mac. The world is full of noise. And finding quiet isn't about pushing everything out. It's just about pulling yourself in. That's all.
