Netflix is Catching the Feels

As a romance novel reader, I always feel a little bit guilty whenever someone asks me “what are you reading?” I’ve gotten a lot better about being loud and proud of my romance novel reading. I’ll gladly debate with anyone why romances are serious reads even if they do follow a fairly narrow formula. Have you read a mystery novel? But for all the perceived silliness and fluffiness of the romance… (more)

Get that Girls’ Night Going: Movies for Your Mood, Whatever Your Mood Might Be

Obviously I love to read, but I can’t read all the time. This was a hard lesson to learn, since reading is both my main leisure activity and, you know, a big part of my job. But sometimes I want to go places and do things outside of my apartment. Sometimes I want to focus on a new hobby. And sometimes, rather than burying my nose in a book, I want to slather on a restorative face mask while… (more)

It could have been better if they used the same actor and actress as the elderly couples with some make-up tricks and acting skills, thus it didn’t feel like disjointed and totally different characters.

Chick Movie- A good tear Jerker. Watched it soooooooo many times!!!!!

It took me a long time to get around to this romance, and I almost didn’t make it past the cheesy opening credits, but I’m glad I did. The performances and story were solid.

After seeing this several years ago and not really liking it, I had a change of heart this time around. It's a touching story, and I found that I liked the story of the young lovers better than the older couple. Lots of romance! When I first tried to read the book, it was really hard to follow because of the "dual story lines" but maybe I'll give the book another chance after seeing the movie again.

I had heard so much about this movie... and I will be taking any further suggestions with a grain of salt next time. Its a cheesy romance, though not from the cookie-cutter formula romance. The characters are rather stock types, many - far too many - cutbacks and close-ups, historical oddities (extremely white and straight teeth, hairless bodies, including armpits of both men and women), major structural lacunae (where did Noah get all the money to buy materials to repair the house? and then to furnish it? how did he make a living?), and worst of all was the music - straight from the fromage factory... so tastelessly clichéd! The only redeeming quality is that the frame story and the story in the notebook (most of the movie) merge and resolve the plot.

This movie is a representation of a true love story between two loving people. It is a very movie. A poor country boy and a rich city girl start going out and eventually fall in love with each other and have to go through many obstacles such as the girl’s family disapproving their relationship and the boy having to back to serve in the war which was creating distances in their relationship, yet they were madly in love with each other. It is known to be almost everyone’s favourite romantic movie of all time because of the chemistry that is portrayed by Ryan Gosling (Noah Calhoun) and Rachel McAdams (Allie) I rate this movie 5 out of 5 because it is an amazing movie. @BirdieBooks of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

In my opinion, the Notebook is the perfect romance film of all time. This movie starring Ryan Gosling (Noah) and Rachel McAdams (Allie Hamilton) is about a country boy who falls in love with a girl from a wealthy family. This movie shows that love isn’t always perfect, it can sometimes be hard and emotional but if you love them, you will fight for them through it all. It is insanely adorable and heartwarming to watch their story and you may even cry a few times during this movie. You might want to make sure you have tissues with you, as it can be a real tearjerker at times for some people. I highly recommend that you watch this beautiful movie. I rate The Notebook 5/5 stars. @Kyky18 of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

The Notebook is an emotional romantic movie that really pulls on your heartstrings. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are cast perfectly. The chemistry between them is unforgettable. I recommend this movie more for teenagers and young adults. This is the one of the most classic romantic movies I have ever watched. The story is well written and the cast was great. If you have a bucket list for movies you need to put this on it. If you want a good cry you need to watch this movie too. I’m not into romantic movies but this one changed my mind and perspective on the genre. @McRee of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

This must be my favourite romantic movie, the chemistry between Rachel McAdam’s and Ryan Gosling on screen can’t be beat. Ryan gosling plays, Noah Calhoun, who falls desperately in love with Allie (Rachel McAdams). They face issues such as disapproval from her parents and Noah leaving to serve in the war. Allie gets involved with another man, but it is clear her feelings for Noah aren’t gone. The story is amazing and how the relationship between these two evolves is well done. Good characters and acting throughout the movie and is enjoyable to watch. Overall amazing plot and great romantic movie to watch.4.5/5 stars. @EffyStonem of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board.

This was a good heart touching movie made about true love, however I personally think it was a little overrated. The overall plot was good and i really enjoyed the climatology of the film. This movie did have amazing acting which in my opinion made it that much better. A lot of my friends, classmates, and even teachers have really enjoyed this film and see it as a symbol of true love. There are even a few scenes that made me tear up. Even though there were some aspects of the movie that i personally did not like, It overall was a good movie and I would totally recommend it to teenagers and adults. I would give this movie a 4.5 out of 5 stars. @terrificbooklover of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board

Very slow movie. I found it very boring!

Aug 10, 2018

Absolutely essential is the deleted scene "The origin of the notebook". In his mistaken effort to hide the identities of the older protagonists as long as possible, the director did not include this scene in the final cut, although it explains two of the most important elements of the story. What an insult to the intelligence of the viewer! Bearing in mind the generally excellent acting all round, how much more dramatically effective some earlier revelations would have been.

Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want. What do you want?

Duke: "I know you feel lost right now, but don't worry... Nothing is ever lost, or can be lost... The body, sluggish, aged, cold... The embers left, from earlier fires... shall duly flame again..." Allie: "Did you write that?" Duke: "No. That was Walt Whitman." Allie: "I think I knew him..."

Noah: "I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who's ever lived: I've loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough."

Young Noah: [while hanging from the Ferris Wheel] Will you go out with me?
Young Allie: What? No.
Young Noah: No...?
Young Allie: No.
Young Noah: Why not?
Young Allie: I don't know, because I don't want to.
Young Noah: OK, then you leave me no other choice.
Young Allie: [Lets go with one hand] AHHHH!
Young Noah: I'm gonna ask you one more time, will you or will you not go out with me? I think my hand's slipping.
Young Allie: OK, OK. Fine I'll go out with you
Young Noah: No, don't do me any favors.
Young Allie: No, no I want to.
Young Noah: Say it.
Young Allie: I wanna go out with you.
Young Noah: Say it again.
Young Noah: All right, all right we'll go out.

“Every great love starts with a great story...”

“An ordinary beginning, something that would have been forgotten had it been anyone but her. But as he shook her hand and met those striking emerald eyes, he knew before he'd taken his next breath that she was the one he could spend the rest of his life looking for but never find again. She seemed that good, that perfect, while a summer wind blew through the trees.”

“Poets often describe love as an emotion that we can't control, one that overwhelms logic and common sense. That's what it was like for me. I didn't plan on falling in love with you, and I doubt if oyu planned on fallin gin love with me. But once we met, it was clear that neither of us could control what was happening to us. We fell in love, despite our differences, and once we did, something rare and beautiful was created. For me, love like that has happened only once, and that's why every minute we spent together has been seared in my memory. I'll never forget a single moment of it.”

SAPPHIREBEAR15 Jun 11, 2012

“The reason it hurts so much to separate is because our souls are connected. Maybe they always have been and will be. Maybe we've lived a thousand lives before this one and in each of them we've found each other. And maybe each time, we've been forced apart for the same reasons. That means that this goodbye is both a goodbye for the past ten thousand years and a prelude to what will come.”

Allie: "Sure. Now?"
Noah: "Mmm Hmm"
Allie: "You're not supposed to dance in the street."
Noah: "You are supposed to dance in the street."
Allie: "Yeah, but we don't have any music."
Noah: "Well, we'll make some... Bum bum bum bum bum bum..."
Allie: "You're a terrible singer."
Noah: "I know."
Allie: "And I like this song.”
