Joffrey, of House Lannister, sits on the Iron Throne, the uneasy ruler of the land of the Seven Kingdoms. His most bitter rival, Lord Stannis, stands defeated and disgraced, the victim of the jealous sorceress who holds him in her evil thrall. A slow first half but a really exciting second half!

So many surprises; some were beautifully foreshadowed and others so poorly that the character deaths were hard to accept. The explanations of past events read like footnotes periodically, but I had no other complaints. The characters are distinct and intriguing, and the plot, always engaging.

More of the same here from Martin. Lots of politics, backstabbing, and main character killing. Looooooong. The only characters I care about at this point are Jon Snow, Tyrion, and Daenerys making the rest of the story hard to sit through. Roy Dotrice is still a great narrator.
