I thought I'd read all the stories where I followed at least one of the series, but I ended up not being able to get into them. I ended up enjoying only the story for which I read both series, and even then, it wasn't great.

I don't think this idea worked, at least it did not work for me. The authors chosen are excellent and many of the characters are favourites but the concept of having each story written by two different authors who have to shoe-horn a character each from one of their totally different series into the story made each story feel quite laboured to me and it isolated each character from their usual milieu.
