A summer in Italy turns into a road trip across Tuscany in this sweeping New York Times bestseller filled with romance, mystery, and adventure.

Lina is spending the summer in Tuscany, but she isn't in the mood for Italy's famous sunshine and fairy-tale landscape. She's only there because it was her mother's dying wish that she get to know her father. But what kind of father isn't around for sixteen years? All Lina wants to do is get back home.

But then Lina is given a journal that her mom had kept when she lived in Italy. Suddenly Lina's uncovering a magical world of secret romances, art, and hidden bakeries. A world that inspires Lina, along with the ever-so-charming Ren, to follow in her mother's footsteps and unearth a secret that has been kept for far too long. It's a secret that will change everything Lina knew about her mother, her father--and even herself.

People come to Italy for love and gelato, someone tells her, but sometimes they discover much more.

Kirkus Reviews called Love & Gelato "a sure bet for fans of romance fiction," while VOYA said readers "will find it difficult to put this book down." Readers are about to discover a new place, a new romance, and a new talent.

Really loved Lina's journey through her mother's journal and the discovery at the end which helps her decide whether to stay in Italy or go back to the states. Fascinating facts about the area around the Florence. And such delicious food. I really want some gelato right now. Am not surprised to find that Jenna Evans Welch is the daughter of Richard Paul Evans. She has a gift for storytelling like her father.

Cute (in the best way) story about Lina, an 18-year-old American girl who goes to Italy after her mother dies. The plan is she will stay with her father, a man she has never met. Entertainingly written in the first person, Lina is terribly sad about the loss of her mother and unsure of her future. Soon after arriving in Italy she meets Ren (short for Lorenzo) a nice boy next door who becomes her scooter-riding accomplice. Lina and Ren attempt to learn who Lina's real father is by reading and deciphering her mother's old journal chronicling her time in Italy as a photography student 20 years ago. Questions are answered and mysteries are solved amidst adventures, emotions, and delicious gelato.

If you're looking for a fun trip to Italy with likable characters and without jet-lag or the need for social distancing, this gelato-infused story with a bit of romance is the perfect book for you.

This was a highly enjoyable summer read. When I think of quintessential summer reading, I think of a book that is indulgent, entertaining, and fast-paced. Love & Gelato hit all those marks for me. The characters are well developed, the story is interesting, there are enough twists to keep the plot moving forward, and the romance is very cute. I liked getting to know all of the main characters in this story. This book could benefit from being longer, in order to flesh out different parts of the plot and characters. Some of the supporting characters could've had more time in the book. I would've liked to know more about the friend group in Italy and Addie in Seattle. However it is a great read as it is.

Now this is one time favorite. Maybe one day I'll buy it online for eBay.
It had romance in it too.

After her mom passed away from pancreatic cancer, Lina goes to Italy as per her mother’s request. There, she finds a journal belonging to her mother back when she was only 20. As Lina explores this mysterious and romantic country, she learns not only of how her mother’s choices have impacted her future, but how her own choices will too. This is a heartfelt novel that would make readers grin in delight. It was very emotional for both Lina and us, readers, to experience the life of Lina’s mother and to get to know the story of not just one inspiring lady, but two. There was a good mix of romance into the overall plot but Lina’s self-exploration and discovery was the main focus. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to those who want to experience the magical country known as Italy with a bit of love and a whole lot of gelato. Rating: 4.5/5

Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch is a simple and romantic novel that is perfect for anyone in the mood for a cheesy and slightly adventurous story.
Lina travels to Italy to live with her father who was absent her entire life as her mother’s last dying wish. Although Italy is known for its rustic beauty, Lina isn’t there for the “love and gelato,” but instead, she uncovers the life of her twenty-something mother when she lived in Italy from the journal she left behind. Lina is fascinated with the life her mother lived and the secrets that she never knew before, and goes on adventures with her new friend, Ren.
I rate this book a 3/5 and recommend it to ages 11 and up.

This book is simply wonderful and is unlike any other. “Love & Gelato” is a beautiful romance novel that intertwines the story of Lina and her mom. You will follow Lina on her journey of piecing together her mother's past... and her own. The unique setting will definitely keep you interested throughout the book. I loved the character development and how Lina grew as she met new friends and went on thrilling adventures. I also enjoyed the humor and the fun feel of the novel. This book will captivate you and certainly leave you with a smile on your face. I thoroughly recommend this book for teen romance enthusiasts and those looking for a light, heart-warming read. Awesome book full of unexpected plot twists. I couldn't put it down and so I finished this book in one day. My only complaint is that it wasn't longer!!

After her mother's death, Lina goes to Italy to stay with the father she has never met. When she arrives she is given a diary her mother wrote during her time in Italy and in it Lina finds her mother's story of living in Italy, and uncovers some of the mysteries of her own birth. The characters in this novel are well developed. I love Lina and loved the mystery. It was interesting watching Howard and Lina getting to know each other, and watching Lina attempt to find love and answers. A fun read with some serious moments, and a lot of heart.
