A serial killer terrorizes a small California town in this gripping thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Tami Hoag.

California, 1985--Four children and young teacher Anne Navarre make a gruesome discovery: a partially buried female body, her eyes and mouth glued shut. A serial killer is at large, and the very bonds that hold their idyllic town together are about to be tested to the breaking point.

Tasked with finding the killer, FBI investigator Vince Leone employs a new and controversial FBI technique called "profiling," which plunges him into the lives of the four children--and the young teacher whose need to uncover the truth is as intense as his own.

But as new victims are found and pressure from the media grows, Vince and Anne find themselves circling the same small group of local suspects, unsure if those who suffer most are the victims themselves--or those close to the killer, blissfully unaware that someone very near to them is a murderous psychopath...

Great read. One of my fav's.

Enjoyed it very much: relies on plot twists and characters rather than forensics to move the stories since DNA did not exist back then. Excellent mystery - did not work out whodunit until the end, which is unusual. Tami Hoag has only improved with writing but even in this her plotting and characterizations really move the story and make you care. Ingenious beginning. Had trouble putting it down.

Drew me in and kept me in. Classic Tami Hoag.

Title is not entirely consistent with its content, mainly because it is not about FBI - believed that the FBI facilities are deeper below ground than graves. I didn't see in this book special twists, as many on the cover of it are saying. Everything is just predictable. In the beginning it was interesting to read, it was as thriller, but then - Well, when all this will come to a conclusion?

bit gruesome at times, but a good read

Very good, quick read about a serial killer in a small town and the FBI agent who comes to help local law enforcement. It takes place in the 80s and I thought was true to the time. Besides the lack of current technology and forensic science, there was also a different kind of relationship between the men and women. More old school. The author did a pretty good job keeping you guessing as to the killer even though it was between just three guys. This is the first of three and I'll definitely read the next one.

Very good thriller. Lots of twists. Can be disturbing at times, but just adds more to the thrill. 5 out of 5 stars.
