I liked the movie I thought it was good but it was hard to follow some times and I agree it did not get interesting until near the end that is when it got totally interesting. I mean I felt with the professor there was seriously something wrong with him to think committing murder was going to brighten up his life or find some meaning to his life I'm saying to myself, "Are you kidding me?" Again it was good but felt like it was all over the place.

Actually two and 1/2 stars may be overrated. The plot was not  clear until at least halfway through. However, the closer to the end, the more interesting it got. It was a believable example of a disturbed person's thought processes going seriously wrong. More unsettling was the chilling realization how easy it is for others to miss the signs until it's too late.

Joaquin Phoenix, a philosophy professor, says early on in the film, while he is teaching his students, that philosophy, in its purest form, is bullshit.
His life is not working for him & he has lost all joie de vivre. He makes a new decision during his short teaching stint at a university. Very interestingly, he thinks he can get away with his actions. Enjoyed the film, but it seems Abe Lucas, (Phoenix), is out of touch with reality.

I love Woody, and I continue to believe in him and support his work in spite of the constant stream of lies voiced against his character by the horrid Dylan Farrow. Be that as it may, Irrational Man is Woody's all-time worst film, worse even than Tall Dark Stranger and Jade Scorpion. There is literally NOTHING going on here at all. Phoenix is terrible in the lead.

An artificial movie, for sure, but the people who negatively commented on it (bad script, no plot, boring, etc.), really didn't see its main point. Allen intended to explore an antithesis to Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment" and its main idea by creating the antithetical main character. I think he did it quite successfully.

Terribly boring, could not watch this.

Just another Woody Allen waste of time. The man has made some good movies, but this isn't one of them.

Nice music, nice scenery, even a couple of lesser characters are interesting, but the plot and dialog are just the same philosophical mental masturbatory BS that seems to consume Allen.

I tried skipping ahead from some of the dreary scenes but in the end, it was hopeless.

Recommended only for those who can see no faults in Allen's movies.

I liked this DVD. It has a sad ending. The script is strong. It is well acted. It is not good for all ages. Sexual scenes are not subtle enough for a younger audience. There is some violence.

This was just a plain ol' movie that was fun and easy to watch with a bit of a twist. Nothing great but certainly creative. The acting was good and the storyline a little silly but OK.
