Where women are created for the pleasure of men, beauty is the first duty of every girl. In Louise O'Neill's world of Only Every Yours women are no longer born naturally, girls (called "eves") are raised in Schools and trained in the arts of pleasing men until they come of age. Freida and Isabel are best friends. Now, aged sixteen and in their final year, they expect to be selected as companions--wives to powerful men. All they have to do is ensure they stay in the top ten beautiful girls in their year. The alternatives--life as a concubine, or a chastity (teaching endless generations of girls)--are too horrible to contemplate.
But as the intensity of final year takes hold, the pressure to be perfect mounts. Isabel starts to self-destruct, putting her beauty--her only asset--in peril. And then into this sealed female environment, the boys arrive, eager to choose a bride. Freida must fight for her future--even if it means betraying the only friend, the only love, she has ever known.

Ever wished you could go to a school where you studied nothing except fashion, hairstyles, and TV? Where you weren't supposed to know what math was, let alone be good at it? Welcome to the Zone, where makeup isn't against class rules, it IS class rules, and a bad hair day won't just wreck your week, it can wreck your life. What did you hate most about high school? The mean teacher? The backstabbing gossip? The shallow fashionistas? The strict parent? The evil snob? The Zone has all those and more, wrapped up with with one of the bleakest endings ever. Be warned; this is one dark, DARK book.

I was disappointed. The premise is interesting, but the author's style isn't engaging. The book moves very slowly and not a lot happens. I did appreciate that the protagonist was flawed and the ending didn't follow conventions.

This book was extraordinary! Somewhat similar storyline to 'the Selection' by Kiera Cass, but dark.

This book was incredible. O' Neill is such a fantastic writer, with an accomplished style of prose. This story changed my life

Just finished it. Makes me question the similarities of her life to the current society. There are shocking parallels, more than we like to admit. I don't want to think about it because it numbs my brain and opens a new POV to my life that scares me.

Ive been feminist for a long time and when i saw the book i thought going in it would be pretty cliche- it wasnt! oh my god, i devoured this book in about 2 days. warning though, this is not a happy book. do not turn those last few 50 pages waiting for some kind of revolt to happen. downer as it was id say this is still absolutely necessary reading for men women girls and boys alike- i only wish it had a happier ending

Finished this within two days, so different yet so familiar as it is what could eventually happen. chilling and unpredictable.
