Chrysanthemum is a funny and honest school story about teasing, self-esteem, and acceptance to share all year round.

Written and illustrated by Kevin Henkes, the nationally bestselling and celebrated creator of Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, Owen, and Kitten's First Full Moon, Chrysanthemum is a don't-miss classic, especially for back to school.

Chrysanthemum thinks her name is absolutely perfect--until her first day of school. "You're named after a flower!" teases Victoria. "Let's smell her," says Jo. Chrysanthemum wilts. What will it take to make her blossom again?

This popular picture book has sold more than a million copies and was named a Notable Book for Children by the American Library Association. "Perfectly executed in words and illustration, Chrysanthemum exemplifies Henkes's talent for creating true picture stories for young audiences."--The Horn Book

This is an ideal break-the-ice book for the first week of school. It get children thinking about and bonding with their own names and the names of everyone else in the class, and it's the perfect vehicle for starting a discussion about treating classmates with tolerance, kindness, and compassion.

Perfect back to school story - Especially at the level of K to 2 grades. One of the classic evergreen stories with neat and beautiful words and illustrations. Great to have the playaway version. Most impressive book for young readers and great for read aloud to a group of kids.

Chrysanthemum is excited about starting school until she is teased about her name. Luckily, a sensitive and perceptive teacher is there to help.

Precious, priceless, fascinating, and winsome! Reading this as an adult, I recognize so many of the illustrations from childhood and am struck by how influential this book must have been on my kiddo brain. An absolutely classic back-to-school and be-yourself book that teaches compassion and strength of character like few others.

A delightful book about a young girl with a very different name. Bullying is touched upon as well as compassion. Cute ending! You'll want to read it twice!!

Very sweet story about a girl who is teased at school because of her unusual name. Could have used a bit more of Chrysanthemum sticking up for herself and a bit more of her classroom teacher putting a stop to the teasing. This book was written long before the bullying discussion was en vogue, so it may seem outdated and incomplete to some. Still a darling book with charming illustrations and a good message.

A great introduction to the hurt of teasing for children and the self-consciousness of elementary school. Adorable illustrations that will be well loved by readers. Definatley more geared towards young girls.

That morning the students were introduced to Mrs. Twinkle, the music teacher.
Her voice was like something out of a dream, as was everything else about her.
Her students were speechless.
They thought Mrs. Twinkle was an indescribable wonder.
