I'd say this is a 3 star album. has 16 songs.
The other famous person of the song's duet does not automatically 'stand out' in the solo portions in the songs --- so, this means the listener can't appreciate a dimension of the song being a solo.
His daughter Shana has a solo in a song; she has a cool, dimensional, rich and deep kind of voice.
Duets often bring out the best of both musicians, and so it is with this album: A bluesy/jazzy feel, some gargle-worthy harmonies, some mellow. Fun to listen to all the variations.
fans of strong singing will like this one a lot. I liked the duet van had with shana his daughter. she holds her own, but just barely.
I was looking forward to hearing this as I am a long time fan of Van and have an extensive collection of albums of his. However I found this disappointing I am sorry to say. Some of the duets work beautifully and quite a few miss the mark for me by being too 'poppy', lacking in enthusiasm or simply are not an improvement on the original.
Does the catalogue really need to be reworked Van?
