Love this film on one disc that suits both the speaker & English audience. I viewed in both languages was perfect. This is a south Korean version of you sank my battleship...but this is war boats oared by human physique. The strategic planning of ship battle is so timed that even 'Nature' is instrumental to the win. The turtle battle ship is outstandingly feared by the Japanese war ship...this reminds me of the American / Japanese war; where again the Japanese outnumbered the opposing country.. nature came in & possibly gave the upper hand .
Korean films are always so captivating I review this twice before returning the loan.

Five turtle warships must view

Korean historic war drama's are not a genre I have much experience with, but I can honestly say I really enjoyed this movie. For one reason, it's actually based on (well, its loosely based on) an actual naval battle between feudal Japan and Korea. While most western war drama's require some aspect of the story to include the west, or at least a western protagonist, you'll find nothing of the sort here. There's also no magic or over-the-top supernatural additions to the story. This is a straight up naval war drama. Master and Commander, but off the straits of 1500's Korea. The props, costumes, settings and even the CGI are pretty cool to watch. I can't think of another movie where I've seen Japanese and Korean heavy warships of this era. The swashbuckling is better than you'll see in any of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (though I do enjoy at least 2 of those movies), yet it's more interesting to watch because it's something different. The only drawback to the movie is that the dubbing is, well, kind of off putting. But watching with the subtitles on easily remedies that. The actual battle is a way into the movie, and while the build up story isn't anything that hasn't been seen before, the costumes, setting, and occasional gore kept me watching. I 'm definitely keeping my eyes open for similar movies in the future.

A stupendous historical movie on one of the great naval engagements of all time - - when Admiral Yi Sun-shin of Joseon [Korea], with a small group of 12 ships vanquished an overwhelming Japanese armada of over 300 ships.
The sophisticated script does a wonderful job of explaining the political nuances among the ruling elites of the two kingdoms of Joseon and Japan, effectively showing the forces arrayed against the admiral, both within [Joseon] and without [Japan].
It is historical in nature, so it isn't a non-stop action vid.

Glad it was dubbed, it would have been pathetic if I had to read my way through. Kept my interest to see where it was going. Good for a laugh as I've never seen square shaped boats with oars go so fast through the sea. (or anywhere for that matter) But, and it's a big but, It's very barbaric and would not recommend personally to anyone.

Yes, it is a fierce and smart battle. Not sure it was worth an hour wait. Would have been better if given each side clear colors or different amour or anything at all to know which side to cheer for. The best actor in the entire movie was a deaf woman who had two scenes. She stole the entire show. Also I looked up info about the Admiral and was disgusted to find the movie didn't portray his character right at all. I think its dumb to make a movie about a person and then do the opposite of their personality. Just do a movie about a admiral thats smart if thats what you want to do, don't make up someone's character and have everything eles correct!

Interesting movie. Most of the sea battles were done well.

Was expecting a lot more from all the hype. Didn't like the fact that it was dubbed, I prefer subtitles and the REAL actors as the voice overs in almost all voice over movies are brutal.
It sure isn't Red Cliff, but its an okay timewaster, just seems like a LOT of time.

Over-long and sometimes hard to follow,.. but with a unique and sustained epic naval battle as a payoff.
