This book details many of the ways in which our bodies degrade over time, going over body structures and processes in an encyclopedic manner. It's not an easy read as many of these mechanisms involve subtle weaknesses in how our bodies work. The author makes a valiant attempt to convey a lot of fairly technical information, and leavens it with stories of people (including the author) who have become afflicted with some of these problems. I wouldn't recommend this book if you tend towards hypochondria. It also shows the many ways in which good health habits are of benefit; and provides some basis for evaluating how serious (or non-critical) a particular condition might be. It's best if you have some scientific background - or at least the willingness to learn.
