Special effects are fantastic on all accounts and Michael Caine is as formidable as ever. I didn't really care much about the rest of the performers or the plot.

Pretentious production. Stumbles on itself in its efforts to be intellectual and edgy. When a man finds himself within a space-time scenario from which he is able to influence the past, he sends messages into the past which the viewer watches take place over time for those characters who exist in the past. The viewer witnesses the man in the unusual space-time practicing his abilities to send messages into the past, and improve on his abilities to find those signals through which the characters in the past will accurately and fully perceive the message he is trying to convey. So we see the man outside of normal space-time experiencing time's passage in a linear fashion, sending messages to characters in the past. The linear time experienced by the man outside of normal space-time is translated to the linear time of the characters in the past. One would expect that a man outside of normal space-time would be able to find new ways of trying to get his message across to the people in the past without time necessarily transpiring for those people in the past. After all, if it doesn't work the first time, he just tries again in a way that time does not pass for his recipients in the past. From here, the entire plot loses all cohesion.

Furthermore, the very presence of this man outside of normal space-time and the core of the plot structure of the movie (i.e. people traveling through space) DOES NOT TAKE PLACE unless his initial message is not fully grasped by those in the past (that message being 'don't leave', or 'stay'). So it is needed for this man outside of time to not be effective at sending messages, and for his recipients to also experience time's passage between the messages he sends. The plot needs for time to basically correlate between people within normal space-time and the man outside of normal space-time. Again, one would expect that if you had all the time in the universe to get a message to a particular pair of people at a particular point in normal linear time, you could just keep sending your messages to those people at that point in time (basically replaying their time for them until they understood what you wanted them to understand).

Anyway, no plot cohesion. The performance by the lead actor is actually generally quite good.

This is a terrible movie. Too long and probably originally longer because I think they edited out some things which might have made more sense. Who would believe an out of shape engineer would leave his adored children suddenly one day to pilot several flight vehicles that he had no training on to another galaxy, destination uncertain, return uncertain? Because he just happened to show up one night at an underground NASA facility and he was the "best pilot they had"? Interstellar cast that were probably persuaded this movie would serve as a warning to what our destiny might be if we don't take care of Mother Earth, but the ease with which they can find another planet and colonize it with only a handful of people planning/executing the mission would seem to have the opposite consequence. Then how do you close up the movie and tie up the ends? No, Engineer does not equal Physicist or haven't you been watching "The Big Bang Theory"? They needed to at least have one in advisory capacity on this movie. Poor Matt Damon, left behind yet again on another planet. And these people never eat.

A relatively Good movie! In some places, it can be difficult to understand the scientific jargon for the regular viewer!

If you watch movies mainly for excitement, you might skip the first few of these sentences til later. Interstellar provides an both an entertaining and useful presentation of an *integration* of many levels of consciousness - that I will call "pragmatic." However (OR, if that's not impressive enough), it accomplishes this through an examination of "realistic" and efficient management of impending and multifaceted priorities. AND it does this at an EVER quickening pace- regarding survival of the human race, while often keeping the viewer on the EDGE of one's seat with exciting life & death adventures, AND while building depth of character (and concept) through EMOTIONALLY challenging dynamics on the personal, family, and community levels. The complexity of the concepts that underlie the main plot, or at least the one regarding survival (and regarding physics of time and space, multiple dimensions, etc) might be intimidating for some, but as noted, the other plots keep it all MOVING well enough. Translating the physics (explanations of the challenges, actual or potential solutions bordering) to metaphysics, might make that part of it easier for some to relate to <smile>. One of the themes is an examination how we deal with impending doom, disillusionment, and finding "what really matters." Meanwhile, keep the tear-wiping facilities near that edge of your seat you will often be on, once "we go interstellar." Or inner-enter-interstellar. Warning, If you watch movies strictly for second-by-second titillation, just skip it altogether -- unless you would like to develop a little useful capacity to focus.

The Gravity of this Sci-Fi drama's plot Holes seems to exceed that of it's Black one.
Logic is subjected to inescapable Spaghettification.
However, the movie accomplishes a deeper purpose by portraying a profound concept our future may perhaps need to embrace. Differential existences in Time Dilation.
Just as the idea of manned Spaceflight took time to permeate into our consciousness, before it could actually be accomplished...... our comprehension of linear time, from the stability of only living-out our lives together on a single planet.....will someday become inadequate.
"Interstellar" introduces a fascinating scenario requiring a paradigm shift in our thinking......
and yet, the film also demonstrates the manner in how it manifests, is still subject to an individual's values.
The moral?
In lock-step with technology, our undertaking of calculated risks is ever expanding. Our familiar notion of what constitutes COURAGE..... is sure to be disciplined by the greater challenges we will inevitably face.

A little too long, but still a good movie. Christopher Nolan delivers.

It's flawed, certainly, but its vision is undeniably appealing and ultimately the film's saving grace.

Wow... Interstellar is a classic for me! It is sweeping and emotional. The film asks a lot of substantial questions about our place on earth.

Rating system should provide an option for quarter star as half star is still over estimated. I am sorry for saying that, but it's true.

From IMDb:

Doyle: You can't just think about your family. You have to think bigger than that.
Cooper: I'm thinking about my family and millions of other families.

Doyle: We have a mission.
Cooper: Our mission does not work if the people on Earth are dead by the time we pull it off.

Brand: You might have to decide between seeing your children again and the future of the human race.

Cooper: Once you're a parent, you're the ghost of your children's future.

Cooper: We've always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible. And we count these moments. These moments when we dare to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, to make the unknown known. We count these moments as our proudest achievements. But we lost all that. Or perhaps we've just forgotten that we are still pioneers. And we've barely begun. And that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us.
