The entire book, with its unconventional page arrangement and eclectic, frenetic mix of text and pictures, is a spoof on the art of book design and the art of the fairy tale. The individual tales, such as The Really Ugly Duckling and Little Red Running Shorts, can be extracted for telling aloud, with great success. Another masterpiece from the team that created The True Story of the Three Little Pigs!

2017’s Best New Picture Books

I’m lucky enough to do storytime here at LPL, and while there are some challenging days of herding toddlers, it is a joy and a privilege to introduce children to literature and catch a small slice of their innocence and wonder. When we started up storytime again this fall, I wanted to try something different: read a handful of random books, held together only by the fact that they were… (more)

These stories play with the conventional formats of popular fairy tales which kids love because it's unexpected. Very silly and definitely worth a read! It helps if you already know the stories that are being spoofed to get maximum enjoyment though.

Copied from "May I Bring a Friend": I realized that, if I go through the Caldecott Award Winners, I will find the myriad of books I read in my elementary school years - whether they were assigned, or reading circles, or just books that I checked out from the library. It doesn't matter - I can remember the cover and I have rediscovered so many books - and so many that I didn't know were even around when my mother was an elementary school student! What a great surprise! This has been fantastic, and a great trip down memory lane.

Very hilarious. I recommend this to all kids. Most funny narrator is in this book. It has very stupid and funny fairytales.

Bust-a-gut funny, but it has more of an impact if the kids already know the original stories to which it parodies. Read and loved by kids from 5-14 years old. One that stays in rotation in our house!
