Given that this was a republished early book written under a pseudonym [and updated a bit as to technology and other dated material], it is unrealistic to expect a full-blown Koontz. Yes, it moves very quickly, the characters are a bit shallow and more prepared than the average citizen. And everything is a bit too easy. There is a tinge of supernatural, but none of the flesh-crawling grue that characterizes Koontz's later books. Koontz is an exceptional writer who has honed his craft over the years. His quirky characters, his obvious love for dogs, very able supporting characters, and almost poetic use of descriptive language are not as evident in this early effort. It is easy to read, appropriate for young teens seeking a thriller with a POSITIVE ending.

I love Koontz however this one went so fast right into the story not enough suspense build up. Both characters Christina Evans and Elliot Stryker felt like they were just moving at such top speed I wish Koontz would have slowed down a little in the beginning it was too over the top. The ending of the book was a bit better I would have liked a little after story of Danny's experience once he was better but overall the book was ok.

This was good. It had twists and turns and a great ending. His characters were well thought out and his story line too. Suspenseful!
