What was really impressive about this novel was the precision pacing; reminded me of the best Alfred Hitchcock movie I'd ever seen!
This is a blockbuster of writing - - this author really delivers the goods!
There's a new Queen of Noir in town, and her name is Lori Rader-Day!
[But if first-rate writing doesn't appeal to you, and you prefer the five-word sentence structure of a James Patterson, or Davey Douchetard, you might wish to pass on this.]
Thought this was a terrific book, particularly for a first time author. It is well written and witty, with characters that hold your interest.
Just a word a caution to future readers: you might get frustrated and a little annoyed with the characters towards the middle of the book and maybe feel the need to skip over a few parts. I can't say it gets better but at least the story itself picks up the pace with more clues getting uncovered.
The story did not go as I had hoped it would. I had hoped Amelia would've taken a more active role hunting for answers since she was actually involved in the shooting. But having Nath do the legwork was okay, I suppose, except what had made him want to work with Amelia from the start anyways? What was so different about her case that was worth rejecting other schools? If it was mentioned I have missed it.
The writing could have definitely been a lot smoother in my opinion, particularly in the first half of the book, which had awkward breaks between dialogue and the characters' inner thoughts.
The one thing I was relieved to read was that Amelia finally let go of her other 'Amelias' and accepted herself for who she was, as she was.
this book was a real page-turner. i don't usually like mysteries, but my friend recommended this book to me. i loved it!
Great book! I like finding a new author that I like. I hope there are more coming!
I bought this book off Amazon and I didn't really think it was worth the $10. It wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't that great either. I saw what was coming way ahead of time and I didn't really like the professor. I found Nath chapters way more interesting and just a better character. Amelia reminds me of "House" and I thought she tried too hard.
Saw the reviews in Chicago Magazine and NYT Book Review, and this book did not disappoint! Rich characters and plot, and many surprising twists. I could not put this book down!
