The Many Talents of David Tennant

If you haven’t been on any device with ads for the last few months then you probably won’t be familiar with David Tennant’s smirking face as he embodies the demon Crowley in the latest book to TV adaptation: Good Omens by Terry Pratchet and Neil Gaiman. If you’ve logged onto anything within the last few months, then you’ll realize that Amazon sunk some serious money into promoting the crap… (more)

This is so dang amazing and I didn't even know the main character was Doctor Who! This and season two. Get it!

Broadchurch is very micro in scale, as it examines the impact that the death of an eleven year old boy makes on a provincial coastal community in England. This series will keep you on the edge of your seat as small town accusations run wild all while the investigating detectives must combat the ... Read More »

Season 1 of Broadchurch is a desperately sad story about a small English town reeling from the death of a young boy. Unlike most crime dramas on TV when this aired (2013), which were typically episodic murders-of-the-week, Broadchurch took all 8 episodes to solve its case. The cinematography is stunning, the acting outstanding (David Tennant, Olivia Coleman, and Jodie Whittaker in particular), and the story deeply compelling. The murder doesn't just shatter one family; it reveals the seedy underbelly of a seemingly pleasant community.

Ultimately, while I thought that S1 of Broadchurch was excellent, I can understand why it might not be for everyone given its difficult subject.

Excellent crime drama series set on the coast of England. The characters are amazing. The storyline will make you want to bing watch all episodes in one sitting.

I hated this series. The fact that it centers on the senseless murder of an 11 year old boy. There are few sympathetic characters in the entire town. There is an undercurrent of child rape and murder in the back stories of some of the most unlikeable characters ever assembled. Many characters are just stupid. David Tennant seems vicious and inept. As does most of the police force. They are given the assignment to follow two suspects and they lose both of them. Hypocrisy seems to be the hallmark of the town. One plot line has the town bullies forming a lynch mob and then a couple of scenes latter they all turn out for their intended victim's funeral. But the most offensive aspect is the murderer who is written as the most unlikely suspect which means he shares the town's rampant hypocrisy and is just vile. The town is called Broad "church" should have prepared me for the ending which gets all preachy and pious.

Love the actors. Plot lasts whole season.

An engrossing series, in spite of being flawed. Olivia Colman is excellent in the part. Tennant, however, is beady eyed with hair conveniently groomed over his forehead and an unshaven face which makes him appear seedy, weak, and rather ineffective in his job. Some of the problem is the plot: at critical points in the story, he gets a cardiac attack. His determination to solve the case results in leaving the hospital which demonstrates foolishness rather than his commitment to his job. By the time of the denouement, we are tired of his befuddlement. The twist at the conclusion is a bit too implausible. It literally comes out of the blue.

Hopefully season two is better...?

Broadchurch is a crime drama that toys with your emotions. While watching this you are not in the drivers seat of your feelings. But that isn't a bad thing! Quite the opposite. The general atmosphere the show presents us with sets the mood. Perhaps best described as foreboding and melancholy. Either keep some chocolate nearby while watching to help bring some light in or just fully immerse yourself into the dread.

Being from a small coastal town myself, Broadchurch gets the small-town feeling just right. People know each other. Or they think they do. As the show goes on the characters, and by extension the viewers, have more and more doubts about each and everyone. Though perhaps a bit generous with the use of red herrings, the show always keeps us guessing, second guessing, and then eventually triple guessing our seventh guess.

Broadchurch is perhaps the best crime drama of the decade. I would recommend it to anyone.

Fast moving with pace where needed. A good presentation of human nature; how partial information can ruin lives; how fast people judge each other.
Very good acting.

One of the best shows I have ever seen. Olivia Colman, David Tennant, and Jodie Whittaker, along with the rest of the cast, are impeccable actors. There are three seasons... check them all out!

An excellent British crime series, Broadchurch Season 1 tells of a young boy's murder in a small coastal town. This series will keep you on your toes all the way through. Very emotional. Also features three Doctor Who Doctors (David Tennant as the main cop, Jodie Whittaker (the new doctor) as the Victim's mom, and David Bradley (the current First Doctor replacement) as the news agent). A must for fans of cop shows, British Drama and David Tennant.
