Enjoyed the season - it's not "Six Feet Under", but it grows on you... Come on, OPL, are you going to get Season 2?!?

I read one of the Charlaine Harris books, and thought it was merely an OK read. Because of that I expected the series to be chick-flicky, but HBO of course has taken it to a different level. It's sweaty, hot and organic, which is a surprise for the vampire genre (which usually sticks to lust and perversion as its themes -- although I must say, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was fun and smart and more fun).

The series isn't fast-paced, and yet lots does happen. The "each episode ends with a cliffhanger" thing is annoying, although well done. But Anna Pacquin is excellent as Sookie; the guys are all hot (and Ryan Kwanten can do "I'm clueless and innocent and yet addicted to sex" very well indeed), and Sookie's coworkers are all strong characters, acted to a T. In fact Bill, the vampire romantic lead, is probably the weakest character in the series -- and he's not weak at all.

I'm GLAD for the mess, blood and dirt in this series. It's a nice departure from the chilly-but-stylish Count Dracula model, and nothing like the self-parodying horror genre popular with teenagers. Very adult; very interesting.

I went through the entire season in a week; no wonder the Holds are counting down so quickly. BRING ME SEASON 2! BRING ME SEASON 2!

High on quirky, cheeky fun, but low on real drama. More Buffy than Underworld. Enough action and special effects to keep you perking.
