This drama/mystery film will definitely leave you on the edge of your seat as it has a storyline with many twists and turns. The movie is about a girl named Anna who returns home from her stay in a psychiatric ward, to discover that her father has married the nurse of her late mother. One night, the ghost of her mother appears and claims that the nurse is the one that killed her. Anna decides to investigate this, but at what risk? The movie did have some awkward scenes and some mildly sloppy directing, but what it did do is create a plot that was far more interesting than some plots in other horror films. I would rate this movie 3/5 stars.

I wish Sno-Isle would get their head out of their attic and put down the year these movies are made. Not sure if it's laziness or they just don't care. They say the date in the title is when it was made into DVD but that makes sense to put that date in the title. It just makes me have to go into extensive research to find out when the movie was made. Tomfoolery is what I call it and I am sick to death of getting movies that are not what they seem. Free or not, it's a waste of my time.

I think if people are looking for horror and gore this is not the movie for them. After all we need to realize this was made back in the day when we didn't see anyone be literally shot on the screen. There was no body parts being cut off before our eyes, no swearing, no people seen in bed... that kind of a thing. As far as the movie being scary, I think it's more about romance than anything else and I appreciated the movie. Innocence... nothing wrong with that, and some parts were comedic.

This pathetic attempt at horror was filmed in 1944 - a time when a few wisps of smoke and pages of a book turning on their own were meant to be scary.

This 1944 ghost/haunted house story actually had some real potential to deliver the ghostly goods - But, unfortunately, it didn't produce any genuine scares at all.

Considering that this picture obviously had a substantial-sized budget to back it up - You'd honestly think that the screenwriters would have worked in earnest to scare the socks right off its audience.

It sure seems to me that the whole point of The Uninvited's story was to set the stage for a typical, Hollywood romance to transpire between 2 of the leading characters.

(*Movie quote*) - "How very curios!"

Believe me, f-f-f-folks - I really, really, really did try to stifle my impatience with this particular ghost/haunted house story from 1944. I really, really, really did.

Yep. In all honesty, I tried to cut this one some serious slack due to it now being 70+ years old.

But - (IMO) - The Uninvited (though it did have a lot of potential to be a truly frightening movie experience) came close to being an utter failure in its genre.

Yes - There were a couple of choice moments of eerie spookiness that sent goosebumps running up and down my spine - But - For the most part - This haunting of "Windward House" story just didn't deliver enough satisfactory chills & thrills to hold my undivided interest.

As usual - (Coming from this particular era in Hollywood movie history) - This film's main focus zeroed in on the budding (and boring) "boy-meets-girl" romance that (predictably) transpired between 2 of the story's leading characters.

haunted house on cliff and deep dark family secrets! Boo! (in a good way)

I'd never heard of this vintage ghost story (one of the first Hollywood films to treat the subject seriously) until Criterion released it recently. For those who prefer their horror deliberately paced, atmospheric and eerie, rather than bloody and violent, this will appeal to you. A brother and sister move into a house on the coast, only to find it haunted. The coastal setting and Gothic mood are reminiscent of "Rebecca" and the Brontes. It is a little slow moving, but well-done and its influence can be seen in other bloodless horror films like "The Innocents," "The Haunting," and, more recently, "Insidious" and "The Conjuring." The screenplay was by Dodie Smith, who wrote "101 Dalmatians" and "I Capture the Caste."

I love horror movies, especially the classic old ones, but... when it stated on this website that it was a "2013" movie, I thought it was the remake, or a movie with the same name that I saw advertised that interested me. So when I finally got to get a hold of a copy (after 4 months on the wait list) I was kind of disappointed that it was not what was implied. But the movie was good.

Wonderful old classic horror film. Effects for that time must have really terrified the audiences. Has a few moments of comic relief as well. Recommend it highly.
