Millicent understands the terms of her arranged marriage all too well. She gets to be a Countess by marrying an impoverished Earl. And in return, the Earl Fitzhugh receives the benefit of her vast wealth, saving his family from bankruptcy. Because of her youth, they have agreed to wait eight years before consummating the marriage. It is a most sensible arrangement. Except for one little thing. Somehow Millie has fallen head over heels in love with her husband. As the hour they truly become husband-and-wife draws near, both Millie and Fitzhugh must face the truth in their hearts.

The Rules and the Exceptions

I’m a natural-born rule follower. If there’s a rule in place, it almost never occurs to me to ask why it’s there or whether it’s worth following; it’s a rule, so unless it’s a pile of ethical garbage, I’m probably going to follow it. My preference for strong, clear guidelines in all things (Obligers, am I right?) even bleeds over into my reading habits. I’ll often set rules for myself about wh... (more)

Books & Birthdays

Most years, I don't make much fuss about my birthday.  Not infrequently, I'll forget it's coming and only remember when thoughtful friends and family start asking me about presents. But not this year!  This year, I decided to treat myself to a birthday extravaganza.  And when I realized I'd have a blog post due around the time my birthday hits, I was full of ideas to tie the wondrous fact of… (more)

A quiet little romance novel that quickly stole my heart. It's the story of two people who learn how to make the best out of an awkward and emotionally scarring situation, and along the way become great friends. It plays on tropes within the genre, but switches it up a bit so it isn't too cliched... Read More »

Ravishing the Heiress (an apt title) is an example of a fine story teller taking a complicated situation headed for ugliness and turning it into a heartfelt, passionate story with the finest balance and precision. At multiple times of the book, I nodded my head in appreciation at the way Thomas diverted from imminent doom and continued to make the story pleasing and entertaining to read.

I loved this book and read it in one night. My heart heart strings were really tugged on by Millicent. The unrequited love does not harden her soul. I ended up in awe of her selflessness. Excellent read.
