When Pippin, a fawn abandoned by her mother, cries out for help, she is found by author Isobel Springett. After carrying the tiny fawn back to her home, Isobel places Pippin next to Kate, a Great Dane who has never had puppies of her own.

What follows is a remarkable and unlikely friendship. Kate successfully raises Pippin to be an independent deer, and Pippin always returns from the forest to visit her best friend.

With simple text and stunning photographs, Kate and Pippin, and their one-of-a-kind friendship, come to life in an irresistible way!

Saw a short piece on You Tube about the animals in this book--which was mentioned, so wanted to see the format. Really cute.

UPSHAWSTARS Mar 22, 2013

The UPSHAWSTARS gave the story 5 stars because the story was nice, the animals were cute, and it let us make lots of wonderful connections to ourselves, other stories and things we know about animals and the world.

We like this book because it has real photographs of real animals that are friends. We like the animals in the book because we think it is unusual for them to be friends because Kate is a pet dog and Pippin is a wild deer. Pippin knows she is a wild animal because she still goes to the forest every night to sleep. But she still loves Kate because she comes back every morning to play with Kate.

A lovely true story of friendship between a great dane and a deer, with photographs of the two beautiful friends.
