It's Basic: A Film Screening Based on MLK's Vision for Guaranteed Income

5:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Lawrence Public Library

Description

Tues, Jan 28 | 5:30-8:00 PM | Auditorium

In the years before his death, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led a nationwide movement championing economic justice for all Americans through the creation of a universal, guaranteed income. Almost 50 years after his death, cities are beginning to make his vision a reality by offering residents an opportunity to receive monthly income-- no strings attached. Join us for a screening of "It's Basic," an award-winning documentary about the power of guaranteed income to transform communities. Afterwards, community leaders will invite attendees to participate in a community conversation about the impact of poverty on families in Douglas County and local efforts to create a guaranteed income program.

For more information on guaranteed income pilot programs, visit Counties for a Guaranteed Income. Questions? Email Gabby at gboyle@lplks.org or call 785-843-3833 x 136.
