Digital Age Film Series with the Center for East Asian Studies

SAT | Oct 12 & 19 | 1 PM | Auditorium

We’ll watch two of four East Asian films at the library in this series led by the Center for East Asian Studies at KU. The films will address issues created by the rise of the Digital Age. A discussion of the films will follow. Light refreshments provided. 

A complete schedule of the film series is outlined below. The middle two screenings will be held at the Library Auditorium. The first and last films will be held at the English Room at the Kansas Union. 

WED | Oct 9 | 6-8:30 PM | English Room, Kansas Union
Screening of the film Pulse (2001), written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa with a runtime of 1 hour and 59 minutes. Discussion of the film will be moderated by Linda Galvane, East Asian Languages & Cultures.

SAT | Oct 12 | 1-3:30 PM | Library Auditorium
Screening of the documentary about Chinese typography Hanzi (2017), directed by Mu-Ming Tsai with a runtime of 56 minutes. Discussion following the film will be moderated by Cecilia Zhang, East Asian Collections at Watson Library.

SAT | Oct 19 | 1-3:30 PM | Library Auditorium
Screening of the film Past Lives (2023), written and directed by Celine Song with a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes. Discussion following the film will be moderated by Logan Ward, The Kress Foundation Department of Art History.

WED | Oct 23 | 6-8:30 PM | English Room, Kansas Union
Screening of the film Total Trust (2023), written and directed by Jialing Zhang with a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes. Discussion will be moderated by Hong Tien Vu, Journalism & Mass Communications.
