Nancy Cruzan and the Right to Die: 30 Years Later

Lawrence Public Library

Description

Lawrence Public Library continues its Before You Check Out program with a presentation by Kansas City attorney Bill Colby who will speak about his experience arguing the first ever “Right to Die” case before the Supreme Court. Cruzan v. Director, Missouri Department of Health was a landmark case decided in 1990 that underscored the importance of advance directives, a document that outlines a person’s wishes regarding medical treatment should the person be unable to communicate them to a doctor.

The program will be held as part of National Healthcare Decisions Day in partnership with LMH Health and the Senior Resource Center. LMH will have advance directives and notaries available at the program.
